Why Join Crop Share?

Our Crop Share program helps you build sustainable healthy eating habits for your family and support local growers. We do the sourcing and the packing; you just come pick up!

Each week you’ll find quality and diverse choices in your box to get you thinking outside of the box. Instead of thinking about what to cook for dinner and buying just for that recipe, you start with fresh ingredients and work backwards, ensuring you are eating your veggies. You try new things, and new ways to prepare familiar items.

Crop Share runs monthly and will be automatically renewed until you cancel. But we are super REAL people! You can cancel, pause, and skip weeks at any point, though a few reasonable terms and conditions apply.

For just $115 per month, you’ll pick up a peck of fresh produce each week.

We bill monthly, but that’s essentially $28.75* for a crate full of produce with tips and tricks for storing and using it, plus delicious recipe ideas. And you can start any time! Jumping in mid-month? We’ll pro-rate your membership for just the remaining pickups. Twice monthly pickups are also available. And with either option, you can add on milk or eggs (or both) for pickup with your box.

About Crop Share

When/where is pickup?

Pickups are Fridays 3–6:30 pm Saturdays 9am – 4pm, year round*, at Nalls Produce at 7310 Beulah Street, Alexandria VA 22315.
Quality is guaranteed fresh through Saturday, so whichever day you choose to pick up, you will have farm fresh produce.

How does pickup work?

Pick-up is easy! Check-in with a team member, return your empty box from last week, and pick-up your pre-paid Share for this week.
*Four pickups per month, select weekends will have no pickup (advance notice and adjusted payments will be provided).

Where is the produce from?

We vary where we source your Shares from throughout the year so we can ensure the most diversity and freshest quality.
December – March: Domestically sourced
April – May / September – November: East coast sourced
June – August: Locally sourced

Is the produce organic?

Most of the produce is not certified organic, but we strive to carry as many “no or low spray” fruits and veggies as possible. Read about the integrated pest management strategies of two of our most sourced farms here and here.

What if I don’t want something in the box?

Don’t care for something? Allergies? No worries!
During regular pick-up hours, we provide a “swap area” where members can freely trade out things that they don’t care for, or just get more of something they really love!

What if I don’t know how to use an item in the box?

If you just don’t know how to cook something but want to learn, each week we provide recipe cards that correspond to your items.
So try out that strange new veggie or fruit – you just might find a new favorite!

How much does it cost?

A membership is $115/month for four pickups each month, or $59/month for two pickups each month, plus a $10 sign up fee. Each pickup includes a 1-peck box of produce.

Crop Share Community Perks

When you join Crop Share, you join a community. You will receive access to an exclusive Facebook group where you can share recipes and tips with your fellow crop share members. We LOVE seeing how you use your items
We also have member-only gatherings and sales for you to enjoy. It’s a great way to eat healthier, and meet your neighbors along the way!

Still Thinking?

Here are some reasons WE personally love our Crop Share for our own families and feedback from our members on why they love it too!

Reverse Engineer Your Meals

Instead of thinking about what you want to cook for dinner, you begin with the ingredients and work backwards. That ensures you are eating your veggies!

Thursdays, members receive a preview e-mail with that week’s items so meal planning can begin ahead of pick up.

With our Crop Share program, you learn to reverse engineer your meals with helpful tips from us and other members.

Build Healthy Eating Habits

Sometimes we have to retrain our brain into developing healthy habits – Crop Share can be a great trigger.

Knowing you’ll be picking up your next box soon, you’ll use more of your fruits and veggies in your cooking each week. You’ll get creative and make fruits and veggies a priority in your recipes and eat healthier all day – think less empty calorie snacking even! Next thing you know, your family is used to lots of fresh produce being in the house and in your meals.

Support the Community

Our produce is sourced as locally as possible while still ensuring quality and diversity throughout the year. We always buy local first when we can, but we also want to give you the best product we can and make sure every box gives you some variety. So, we do supplement with regional (east coast) and national produce (mostly winter months). We also do some fun boxes a few times a year that may be sourced from other areas.

Local produce is better for the environment, and just plain tastes better when it hasn’t been shipped around the country. And even when the produce in Crop Share isn’t local, you can still rest easy that your dollars are going to support a small family business. Crop Share revenue isn’t going to some main office miles and miles away, it’s going just down the street – to build our Pumpkin Hill, harvest our honey, or get cupcakes for Penny the Pig’s birthday party.

Crop Share ♡

Crop Share has changed my life in so many ways. I eat WAY more and varied vegetables. It’s so fun to discover what variety of fruits and vegetables I get each week. I try new recipes to learn how to prepare new vegetables. I have a reason to stop into Nalls each week (love the smell and the atmosphere). The people who work at Nalls are a joy and I feel good knowing I am supporting a local family run business.”

I have tried so many different veggies that I NEVER would have without it! These are few that come to mind…dinosaur kale, kabocha squash, honey crisp apples (only red delicious or gala prior) ‘raw’ corn on the cob, cubanelle peppers, even radishes.

Signing up for Nalls Crop Share has been the best thing I’ve ever done for my family! We’re eating healthier, trying out new recipes and foods (even my husband is cooking!), and we love the flexibility of being able to swap out any foods we don’t care for with other ones.

Crop Share ♡

I use the weekly crop share as the basis of my meal planning, adding in proteins. My regular intake of fruits and vegetables has skyrocketed, and I feel amazing (not to mention feeling great about supporting local businesses!)”

Crop Share ♡

I’ve definitely increased my vegetable intake and that of my family. I have been more adventurous in my cooking due to trying recipes from Nalls Spoiler Alerts and researching my own. It’s fun to see the FB Crop Share Crew creations and interact with them too!! I enjoy stopping by Nalls each week and feeling a little bit of the “country” and seeing all the nice people working there!

We’re a vegan/vegetarian family, and we eat a lot of vegetables, but sometimes I can’t decide what to buy or make. The box gives me a blueprint, so I can plan out meals with what we already have and know what else we need.

Lost 7 pounds! Trying new recipes that I would have never tried before!

We are eating fresh fruit and vegetables we normally would not grab at the stores we typically go to (Wegmans, costco). It feels like the boxes were made for us and we love the choices for swapping.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start?

You are automatically slated to begin the first weekend of next month. Want to start earlier? No problem! We will reach out to you when you sign up, so make sure you are checking your email. If you tell us you would like to start earlier, we will manually charge you the pro-rated amount for the balance of that month, and give you instructions for your first pick up.

What’s with the “sign up fee”?

The $10 sign up fee is a refundable wooden crate deposit. You take home your Crop Share in this crate each week, and we ask that you bring them back at every pick up so we can fill them back up. When you are finished with Crop Share, bring back your final box, and you’ll get your $10 deposit back.

Do I need a Nalls account?

Yes. Our website is fully secure, and we never give your information to anyone. Ever. If you prefer to pay in person, we are totally okay with that. Just visit the store, email us at cropshare@nallsproduce.com, or call us at 703-971-4068.

I go out of town a lot, can I still do Crop Share?

Absolutely! You can skip weeks at any time and receive a pro-rated cost for your share. Learn more here – nallscropshare.com/skip-request. You can also suspend your account at My Account > Subscriptions > View. This will allow you to skip up to 3 months (90 days) at a time without being charged. When we receive your request, we will email you for start/stop dates. Your subscription will be automatically reactivated at the end of the hold period. If you need to make any changes, just email us at cropshare@nallsproduce.com.

I have allergies or picky eaters in my house, what do I do?

We have a “Swap Area” full of other fruits and veggies, available at pick-ups for people just like you. If you know you don’t want something in your Crop Share, just swap it out for something you like at pick up. The Swap Area is only available at normal pick up times – Friday after 3pm and 9am – 4pm Saturday.

What is a Crop Share “off” week?

An “off” week is when there is no Crop Share pickup scheduled. There are only a few weeks that we take off throughout the year. Most are when there are five Fridays in a month. Crop Share is based on four pickups per month so when there are five weeks, we take one off. The exceptions are in November and December, we typically take the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years off (so there may only be three pickups depending on how the calendar works out). In those cases, we prorate the monthly charge to account for that so you’ll only be charged for the weeks we do have Crop Share.

I am a Nalls Nice Neighbor. Do I earn points on my Crop Share purchases?

Yes! It isn’t automatic like when you shop in the store so it may take up to two weeks for the points to be added to our system but you do earn them for each monthly renewal order. Don’t know what a Nalls Nice Neighbor is? Find out here.

How do I cancel my subscription?

We’re very sad to see you go, but don’t worry, cancelling is easy! Navigate to My Account > Subscriptions > View. On that page you can cancel, change payment, or suspend payments.
